A Study on the Validation of Nursing Dragnosis of Bowel Elimination

Abstract
|
|
|
The purpose of this study was to identify content validity of the defining characteristics of the nursing diagnosis of bowel elimination; Alteration in: Constipation in order to provide data for developing the. sample and relevant list which can be used to make nursing diagnosis of constipation.
This study was based on the classfication of bowel eliminatiin; Alteration in: Constipation and their defining charateristics proposed by the North American Nursing Diagnosis Association.
Data were gathered from Sep. 16 to Oct. 12, 1989, from 70 clients who were experienced constipation among the admission in one university hospital in Seoul and living in Sokcho.
Data were analysed by frequency and percentage.
Conclusions obtained included the following:
1. The subjects consisted of 14 % of man and 86 % of woman. Most frequent age group is aged from 20 to 29 presented 93 %.
2. More than 70 % identified defining characteristics were abdominal distention (96 %), change in frequency (91 %), straining at stool (90 %), abdominal pressure? (87 %), unable to pass stool (84 %), dry hard stool (81 %), mass in recturn (76 %), small volume of stool (76 %), abdominal pain (70 %).
3. The range of defining characteristics items chosen numbered from 9 to 19. The average of them numbered 9.
